Background
“Sinha Heart” is a hybrid typeface designed combining Sinhala & English alphabet. The name translates to “Lion Heart”. It has a dual meaning. Firstly, from the Sanskrit word “Sinhala”, means literally "of lions" or that blood/ heart of a Lion. Referring to the historical origin that Sinhalese descended from Lions.
Secondly, Lionheart is a symbol of bravery. It takes a lot of courage, to leave behind their loved ones, homes and travel to lands unknown; whatever the circumstances. The typeface is for the Sri Lankan immigrants possessing the heart of lion, to go through that situation; help them feel a little at home.
Situation
Sinhala language is spoken by majority of the 21 Million population of Sri Lanka and unique to the natives alone. There are roughly around 3 Million Lankan immigrants & expatriates around the world.  Away from home due to various circumstances & they want to feel closer to home.

Combination
“Sinha Heart” typeface was designed combining the Sinhala and English alphabet. Though the letters are in English, each letter carries a resemblance to the matching Sinhala letter. Sinhala alphabet has 64 letters while the English alphabet has only 26 letters. Thus, when merging the two alphabets the closest possible combination was used.

Historical Background
In ancient Sri Lanka, Ola (leaves from the Talipot Palm Tree) were used as paper. The letters were cut into the leaves with metal tools. With straight lines or angular forms, there was danger that the leaves would tear and curved forms were easier to carve. So the angular letters of the original Brahmi script developed to the curved letters seen today in Sinhalese alphabet.
Structure
The “Sinha Heart” typeface was designed only using circles, inspired by the traditional concept.
